Reserve the date: Fifth Annual Cat's Meow Concert is Tuesday, August 23

The Côte Saint-Luc Cats Committee (CSLCC) will hold its annual fundraising concert on Tuesday, August 23 (7:30 p.m.) at the Syd Wise Auditorium (5785 Parkhaven) of the Marymount Adult Education Centre.  Featured performers will be the Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra,  conducted by Joseph Milo. Some members of his orchestra  will  also present solo performances  

Funds raised from   A Bouquet of Classics: The Music We All Love will go towards the CSLCC’s Trap, Neuter, Release and Adopt Program. There are many feral cats in the community. The CSLCC’s team of volunteers sets out to trap as many as possible, have them sterilized and then adopted or returned to the spot where they were originally found. The committee has also rescued many  kittens and found homes for them. In recent years the city has adopted cat licensing bylaw.

Did you know that there are many people who feed outdoor cats year-round; cats that we have had sterilized? 

Councillor Mike Cohen, responsible for Animal Protection in the city, notes that the concert will be an opportunity for people who love animals to enjoy an evening of fine music while contributing to a good cause.   He also wishes to announce that Nutrience Pet Food by Hagen, D’Arcy McGee Liberal MNA David Birnbaum and Expedia Cruises  will be the evening’s official sponsors.

The Musicians of the World Symphony Orchestra (MWSO) was founded in 2006 by conductor  Milo and his wife Lucy Ravinsky. This one of a kind orchestra is composed of 55 musicians: about 80 percent of its members are from 15 countries around the world, while the remaining 20 percent are natives of Montreal who successfully facilitated the integration of the newcomers. They have been rehearsing at Côte Saint-Luc City Hall for many years and as part of the arrangement, they agree to perform a benefit concert once a year.  

Tickets are only $12 each (tax included) and can be purchased now at the following locations: the main desk at the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library (5851 Cavendish Boulevard); the Côte Saint-Luc Aquatic and Community Centre (5794 Parkhaven Avenue); and the Côte Saint-Luc Hospital for Animals (7930 Baily Road). Tickets can be purchased at the first two locations by credit and debit card or cash and cash only at the Animal Hospital.

Councillors Cohen and Sam Goldbloom, who are co-chairing the event, note that information will be available that night for people interested in possibly joining the committee or adopting a cat.  A bake sale will be held at intermission. Proceeds from that will be directed towards a new fund administered by committee member Diane Liebling to provide cat food to our many feeders.

Four cats need a home after their owner passes away

This is a note we received from Emilia in N.D.G. who needs to find homes for four cats.

My name is Emilia I live in Montreal, N.D.G. My neighbor passed away last week, leaving behind four cats: three  girls and one boy, aged between 5 and 8.

I already have two cats of my own, so I am trying to find them a home to avoid taking them to the SPCA. However, I haven't had much luck. All cat lovers I know are already full.

For now they are still in the apartment buy the end of the month approaching so I don't know until when I will be able keep them there.

Dumbo is looking for a home

Dumbo is looking for someone to bless him with a warm forever home. Found as a stray on Nuns' Island, he has been homeless and freezing out in the cold for too long. He is a very affectionate feline.

This handsome guy is incredibly sweet, friendly and gentle, about 3 or 4 years old, neutered, FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but in excellent health. He’s so deserving of a second chance at a happy life in a single-cat home, or with other FIV+ kitties. Dumbo has a lot of wisdom, value and love to offer. To adopt Dumbo, please email: sinem.inkaya@gmail.com.  Cats can live healthy lives as carriers and transmitters of FIV+. The chances of passing it along to another cat are rare and generally only occur if they get into a massive fight. Therefore, Dumbo would be better in a home as the only cat. "I will say," notes Shelley Schecter of Educhat, "that one of our vets adopted an FIV+ cat and she has two others. There have been no problems."

We have this four month old orange kitten we have temporarily named Julep.

He is about four months old and has been vaccinated, de-wormed and castrated.

He is a very nice and cute boy who needs a forever home.

Two beautiful cats available for adoption

Ten month old Jack is looking for a home.

Marilyn Chernack found Jack in her backyard some months ago.  Since she already had two cats of her own who did not take to other felines kindly,she made sure Jack was well fed. The Côte Saint-Luc Cats Committee had him neutered and his ear tip clipped. He began coming into her house, but only as far as the window sill. He seemed afraid of her cats. 

On the eve of our first snow storm of the season, Marilyn got him into her house -  much to the objections of Boomer and Chester."He didn't stay long; he took a tour and left," she said. "Then, in the middle of the snow storm,  he showed up, came in and hasn't left. My Chester is used to him now, but Boomer isn't and doesn't stay in the same room as Jack. He's not a happy camper.

"Jack is completely socialized, even more than my own cats do is eat play and get stroked and kissed. I've taken in many cats off the street and socialized them but Jack has been the easiest."

The Côte Saint-Luc Cats Committee has this beautiful two year old female cat available for immediate adoption. Erica is a brown tabby, loves people and cuddling. Committee members Eric and Kimberly Goldapple found her near their home. She was taken to the CSL Hospital for Animals. While they determined that she has been sterilized and is in perfect health, there was no identification tag nor an identity chip. We can only determine she was either abandoned or escaped. With no ID nor any calls to our office, we have no way of finding out if she belongs to someone. If she is an outdoor cat, under CSL rules she is supposed to have a license.

She is under the care of the  Goldapples right now. But because Eric is allergic, he would look to find her a good home as soon as possible. Please email mcohen@cotesaintluc.org.
